I think chatting is better than E-mail writing, smileys are super to view the emotions of the writer. Smileys are very important for Emotions There are some very popular programs for example: ICQ, MSN-Messenger, or even Skype.
I use this programs every day, because I have many freetime to write with friends. Since I had a personal computer I use these chat-programs, almost every friend of me also runs a chat program. In this programs you can also use Webcams.

I red your article and I absolutely agree with you! I think chatting is easier and faster. Personally I use SKYPE and I like it! Almost in every message I use smiley. It is very comfortable way how to communicate with friends!
Of course I use e-mail too... :)
I think that your project is very interesting and you are doing a good job as far as security is concerned and regarding communication. You certainly are in the field of collaborative learning that means learning from each other student and that is also another positive point you are running on.
I then recommend you to use OS Linux , open source platform, for the philosophy of freedom that is in its principles and all free software GNU that can replace almost all market and commercial software(often even better).On my site you can find a document about pedagogic implications of Chat, emails etc. to learn foreign languages.

i think chatting is easier and faster if only you send small text.Through e-mail you can send bigger text an small files for instance pictures and documents.Often i use chatting programs (Skype,MSN).You can send files by Skype to but it takes quite long time.For chatting i prefer Skype ,for file sending i prefer e-mail . :)

I prefer comunicate face to face because you can it isn't bad for your eyes and you don't so much.
I think the smilies are very good for emails.They show our feelings.
